does not add up.
I'm sure the cost
of raw food
at supermarkets
is probably a minor component
of total costs that a consumer pays.

of supermarket costs of raw food.

rental 30%
staff 20%
marketing 20%
transport 10%
TOTAL 100%
Now,
for organic foods on the shelf,
except for raw food,
all other costs should
remain about the same.
So to solve for 3 times increase
in price, the numbers look like this

Does it make sense that
the cost of organic food
is 11 times more (220/20) ???

of body odour

Argentina's performance
against Serbia
comes to mind.

No emails
No SMS
You can care
or even have platonic love

I used to think
that being friends

is a great idea.

Ms X came home early
this morning,
before I went to work.
Told me how
for the first time
in her flying job,
she experienced
an air pocket,
the plane plunged
so sudden,
with such a force,
that passengers (not wearing seat belts)
and cabin crew,
flew up
and hit the ceiling
of the plane,
resulting
in dislocated arms,
bleeding cuts.
A quarter of the crew
needed medical attention.
Thank God
she escaped injury,
because she was
in the toilet.
But she saw
the mayhem thereafter,
the galley was strewed
with broken cups and plates
all over.
One stewardess
was so traumatised,
she could not move
and sat there crying
uncontrollably,
they suspected
she may have even
injured her spine.
Ive always hated flying
I've flown all over the world
but I still hate flying.
Everytime the plane takes off,
or lands,
or flies through turbulence,
I would grit my teeth,
and expect the worse.
I can't think
of a more violent death
than dying
in an air crash.
Because when the plane
is in trouble,
it is evident
to everyone
on board,
and you will go through
a few seconds
or minutes even
of pure abject panic
and fear.
I know
air travel
is inevitable
and practical.
We can no longer
go back
to the days
of transversing
the globe
on a slow boat.
But why bother,
with in flight entertainment
and on board meals?
I would prefer
to be served
a strong sleeping pill
that would knock me out
for the duration
of the flight,
like general anaesthesia
during surgery,
just administer
enough for the duration
of the operation.
If my plane
were to crash,
I don't want to know
about it,
let alone go through
agonising seconds
of sheer terror
awaiting certain death.
I'd rather sleep through
an air crash
not knowing any better.
If the plane did not crash,
and I arrived safely
at my destination airport,
what would be better
than to be awoken
by a gentle stewardess
all dolled up
in sarong kebaya?
I would pay double,
no, make it triple,
for that kind of flight.

what have I done
to stop or prevent
child prostitution.
I have started a company
in Batam,
poured in my entire
life savings
to finance the company
for over a year already.
For the better part
of the first year,
the company was bleeding
and I supported
the entire company
with my hard earned money.
I kept my staff employed
kept them off the streets.
I rented a huge bungalow
which is my corporate headquarters
my warehouse
and my staff quarters.
My company provides
3 meals a day
for my employees
and lodging too
for some.
I have a company van
that sends them out
to do sales.
When that is not possible
I pay,
for their transport.
My staff,
who are mostly
uneducated,
are paid better
than fresh graduates
in Jakarta.

for them to come
to Singapore
for training,
mostly their first time
out of the country.
Their kids come to the house
and be babysat
when their parents

including single mothers
and former prostitutes.
My general manager
provides english lessons

and their children

I was in hospital then
immobilised and
connected to tubes.
A young male journalist
commented that when he helped conduct
a poll
for Strait Times,
he concluded that
there is a climate
of political fear,
amongst the 100 people interviewed.
Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew
demanded that the journalist
provide him with the names
of people
who polled that
they fear the PAP.
Minister Mentor Sir,
I am no cross examiner
like you.
I am not even
a journalist.
But if on national TV
you can demand
pollsters be named,
even if I do not live
in fear,
I am afraid,
very afraid.
There is a clearly
a danger
of being named
since you can demand
for names
as you see fit
on national TV.

my ex classmate today.
I remembered him
very clearly in school.
I used to think,
boy, this guy is really dumb.
He is just not good
at any subject
in school.
He could not play
any sport either.
A total loner,
nobody likes you
when what you're good at
amounts to shit,
and your parents
are not even rich.
Rich kids
have this confidence
in themselves.
I guess it comes
when there is nothing
you really want
that your parents can't
buy for you.
It comes when
as a growing child
you can buy food
at the tuckshop
till your hearts content
without having to worry
about not having enough
bus fare
to go home.
It comes when
you have all the tutors
to help you
at your school work.
It comes when
you are afforded
tennis and squash rackets
while the rest of the poor boys
kick a football around.
So I saw him,
sitting alone
staring at his Tiger beer,
and his half eaten
chicken rice.
All alone,
no wife to cook for him,
no kids to come home to.
His tanned face
wore a look of
quiet resignation
with life.
He is probably
a bus or truck
driver.
I hear of the indomitable
human spirit
who overcame enormous odds
to excel
in life.
In him,
I see
another loser.
We always admire
all the winners
in life,
but we are completely
surrounded
by losers.
For every winner,
there's got to be at least
a hundred losers.
I know,
my Dad was
a bus driver himself.

a purely egalitarian
power sharing
type of relationship
between a man
and a woman.
It is always
a personal exploitation
of resources
and wants.
A husband who cares less
always have the power
to exploit
the wife who cares more.
A wife who have less interest
always have the power
to exploit the husband
who have more interest.
People's needs and wants
are many.
Be it social,
be it economic,
be it emotional,
be it sexual.
And in this day and age,
where alternatives
are plentiful

between leaving the spouse

with the INTENTION
